Seminar - Restoration of the neural code for speech through optimal hearing aids + Brain health throughout the lifespan: addressing biological and societal risks to healthy ageing
Biography
Nicholas Lesica is Professor of Neuroengineering at University College London. He leads a research team at the Ear Institute that combines neurophysiology and machine learning to study central auditory processing and develop improved assistive listening technologies. He is also a co-founder of Perceptual Technologies Ltd. Prof Lesica received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 2000 and his doctorate in Engineering Sciences from Harvard University in 2005.
Tara Keck is Professor of Neuroscience and a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology and the Vice-Dean International of the Faculty of Life Sciences at University College London. Her research focuses on the mechanistic and societal factors that facilitate neuroplasticity (how the brain changes in response to experience) and brain health during ageing, and how community-based interventions can be developed to support brain health throughout the lifespan, which she has implemented in partnership with United Nations Offices globally. She obtained her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University and her BA in Engineering Sciences from Harvard University.
